About Us

Almost Home Rescue (AHR) is a non profit dog rescue serving Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. All donations are tax deductible.  AHR is comprised of a small, yet dedicated group of volunteers who devote their free time to rescuing, rehabilitating-if necessary- and rehoming dogs in need.

Our dogs come from various local shelters and in some cases are owner surrendered due to a variety of circumstances like divorce, moving or death, as well as a whole list of lame excuses.

We do not maintain a shelter so all of our dogs live in foster care until they can be placed in the right home.  We can only take in as many dogs as we have an open home for, and therefore we welcome new foster applicants so we can help place more dogs who are in jeopardy of losing their lives.

We do not discriminate against dogs because of age or breed.  When deciding what dogs we will accept into our program, we judge by dogs' temperaments, not by how they look.

Some of our favorite breeds* to work with include:

Rottweiler, Mastiff, Doberman, Boxer & All Bully Breeds

*We will accept small breed dogs at times, but a large breed dog will always take preference when we have an opening at a foster home.

In addition to finding forever families for our rescues, and providing safe foster homes for all dogs currently in our care, we are committed to educating the public by providing accurate information about the above mentioned breeds that are so undeservingly misrepresented.
